Appeal for Assistance and Donations for the Philippines

Dear friends, sisters and brothers:

I have returned to Vancouver from the successful International Solidarity Mission (ISM) - an international human rights fact finding mission to the Southern Philippines. Please see the ISM statement posted above and the news releases, reports and related news articles on this site. A BIG thank you to our donors: I was able to bring in medical supplies, computers, cameras, clothing, raingear, medicine, and some cash for the NGOs there.

The 68 member international delegation including parliamentarians, human rights defenders, union leaders and labour party leaders, religious leaders, university professors, educators and students, doctors, lawyers, and independent filmmakers to document and report back on human rights conditions there and the impact of the US military intervention on the daily lives of the ordinary citizens living there.

The Philippines is a place where the forces of globalization and militarism collide with devastating impact on the people. VACC has participated five international/national NGO gatherings held there over the past 10 months on issues such as the plight of Migrants, Women and Development, Labour, Human Rights, and Peoples Struggles.

We would like to continue our involvement and engagement with Peoples Organizations and NGOs there. We are writing to request your financial assistance. To date, we have raised donations or identified sponsorships to cover most of the costs of our work in the Philippines. We are fundraising at this time to cover our remaining unfunded expenses and to finance new projects.

We ask individuals to donate - and organizations to donate -. In addition, we will take clean donations of raingear, hiking boots, unexpired medicines, laptop computers, 35mm cameras with manual lens, video cameras with a nightshot, and cash donations targeted to NGOs.

Please send me an email at victorywong@yahoo.com so that we may make arrangements to pick-up/receive your donation. Even a small cash contribution will help. VACC has set up this internet site to report on the ISM. Please check in here at www.ism2002.freeservers.com for more information and the final ISM report.

With thanks in advance and in solidarity,

Victor Yukmun Wong
